Liverpool Street Station
Liverpool Street Station opened in 1874, and was named after the Prime Minister, Lord Liverpool.
It is one of the UKβs busiest stations.

Back in the 1880s, Liverpool Street station was full of Steam Trains.
Plus it had one of the first underground connections, so you can travel across London without needing to change!

With this shield, we could dig to greater depths than ever beforeβand in much faster time.
James Greathead used pressure jets of water to move debris from the cutting face into the newly cut tunnel, hydraulic rams to force the shield forwards, and compressed air to reduce the risk of collapse in soft soil.
These tunnels were lined with cast iron rings rather than bricks which Mr Brunel was using.
They say the circular design is what started Londoners calling the underground the Tube!
